Inverwick

Around 50 years ago, Duncan MacDonell saw a shooting star landing here, possibly a meteorite. And it was also seen by Tommy Girvan, old Tommy Girvan, in this area. Now Duncan said he found around here, he found a spot with the grass burnt round about it and he found lumps of heavy stone like... slag. Now... we found the place two or three years ago, somewhere around here; can't find it today. We took home some pieces of heavy stone, burnt stone. Now, I don't think it's a meteorite. There's too much of it. It could be what they call a bloomery where they smelted iron using charcoal. They made charcoal out of the timber and they smelted the iron with that. So I think it's more likely that's what it was.
